ive never seen a straight 8 before. ive recently thought if they did make them along with inline 6. i imagin this would have way more torque than the v8. i know the 300 inline 6 has at least twice the torque than most v8's

Last year of the Pontiac straight 8 that dated back to the 1930s. That was the end of an era.
'55 was the first year of the V8 that they gradually took from 287, to 317, to 347, to 389, 421 and finally 455 cubes.

sounds like some oil cups are dry-!
Gen- and distributor --did you drain
old oil --and fresh before starting-??
