The classic West Point song, performed by Jerry Ernst, accompanied by photos of 60 Civil War generals and the years they graduated. There is at least one from every class that participated in the Civil War, from the class of 1805 to the class of 1862.

  • Very nice! What a pleasant surprise in my annual self-Google. Thanks for the credit.

    Sincerely,

    Jerry Ernst

  • Thank *you*! It's a wonderful, bittersweet rendition.

  • Good job, Thanks for leaving me out of that bunch of ruffians! All slippin down the icy hill and busting their asses!

Sorry for the memory! Last in his Class of 1846

Major General George Edward Pickett (retired)

  • He may have been last in his class at West Point, but he was first in his class at Chapultepec.

  • Wonderful!

  • Thanks :)

  • Sublime pairing, gobragh, absolutely beautiful! I think their formal portraits, particularly the looks in their eyes, tell us alot about these men. Mr. Ernst sings the song perfectly.

  • Great photgraphic essay and music. These men, once classmates and fellow cadets, would soon come to face each other in mortal combat. Ironic and may our Country never again see an era like that.

  • I applaud your originality. Good stuff!

  • This is wonderful, but I just wish I could hear it sung by USMA Glee Club just one more time. This song was always sung by plebes in years gone by and it's a shame the tradition has not been carried forward.

  • very good video, thank you, GreatGrandfather served 2 years the 4th New york infantry. served the rest of the war with the 39th New York infantry((((((((((Garibaldi Guards) discharged as 2Lt. Wounded at Spottsylvania Courthouse, Va May 1864.

  • Kind of wish you had included McCellan but 46 was a bit crouded!
