Cesis/Cecis Castle is located near Sigulda, the biggest ski area in Latvia. A guide, who also happened to be the person in charge of restoration, led us through the Cesis/Cecis Castle Complex, the former castle of the Livonian Order. Up narrow, steep and winding steps into the towers lit only by lanterns we carried to light the way.

One level had remnants of a painting (extremely faint) depicting Adam and Eve with a SQUIRREL at the bottom instead of a snake. Unusual to say the least. Most of the castle was off-limits because of the restoration but it was still interesting. The lanterns were so much fun (felt like a night watchman) and was the best part. Call me a Philistine...

  • As i was born in latvia but live elsewhere this is great stuff! Thumbs up!

  • @supermanga92 Thank you so much! Both for your nice comment and taking the time to watch. Best regards, Travels With Sheila

  • did he tell you about gigantic basements under the castle?

  • @latviacesis Probably not. We were always rushing through historic sights, with so much to see and so little time. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Best regards, Travels With Sheila

  • CESIS-ZEHSIS-WENDEN=!!!

  • @strauja Thanks so much for your very helpful suggestion! I went ahead and added Cesis/Cecis to the video. This is just one of the gazillion mistakes I've made. Thanks for watching and your invaluable comment. Best regards, Travels With Sheila

  • @strauja Thanks for watching and your comment. Unfortunately, when I add (or others add) the correct signs over a letter, computers sometimes turn the world into "gibberish" -- so I've learned just to leave the correct dipthongs and accent signs off my writing. Best regards, Travels With Sheila
