Several paintings from my favorite artist, Marc Chagall. I chose the music because at the time I was reading about the life of Chagall and discovering just how the theme of his love for Bella permeated so many of his works. "She warms my heart and knows what all my imperfections are. She said that I was the brightest little firefly in her jar." That seemed to me to be something that Marc could have been saying about his love through his paintings. The second song is representative of a modern love story. It contains "There's a love that transcends all we know of ourselves. I'll wait for it to come. Wait for it to come. It has to be strong to touch my heart through it's shell..." Another theme reflected in Marc Chagall's work. There was a year of my life where I barely left my house. I was sick of the world and exhausted from trying to deal with life. That was when I discovered Chagall for the first time. It gave me hope. Hope that even I could have a beautiful, rich life like the one he painted. I was going to find myself someday just like the lyrics in the third song. I chose a joyful song to reflect the joy that his work gave to me.

Song #1: Brightest - Copeland
Song #2: Coffee - Copeland
Song #3: Put Your Records On - Corinne Bailey Rae

  • At 5:30, this is a favorite theme of Chagall that intrigues me. I visited the Guggenheim in '92 and '98 and they had a painting similar to this from the Vitebsk period in which someone was being propelled upward by the gas emitted from a cow. I could have sworn there were "cartoon-like" swoosh-wind-strokes painted from behind the cow. I still search for information about this painting, which must not now be at the Guggenheim.

  • @clayamerikanets That's awesome that you actually got to see that painting in person! I hope to be able to see at least one of his paintings in person before I die :)That is definitely one of my dreams. I love how his art just kind of pulls you in. It asks of you emotionally and intellectually. A friend of mine is visiting Israel soon and she might get to see the stained glass windows that he created. I know it was for some school, do you happen to know what the name of it is?

  • This is a magnificent comprehensive collection, the music doesn't detract (unlike very often on youtube) and the paintings are presented simply and not rushed. So thumbs up. And the wonderful soul of Chagall- love, dreams, nature, moonlight..- shines through.

  • Thanks to everybody for the all the nice comments. Marc Chagall's art is very special for me. It spoke to me in a time of grief, that there was a life out there better than the one I was allowing myself to live. It will always hold a place in my heart.

  • @mizofan : I do not agree about the music.

  • @jeboshifru I edited the description of the video. It might provide a little more insight into the reasons why I chose this music.

  • His paintings do somehow express hope. I wonder what it is in his paintings that gives that feelings.

  • Chagall was my first artist - when I was 4 years old, I thought his paintings were portals to Heaven - literally, almost. A great video!
