Even being in such terrible condition he still plays fantastic. One of my favourite trumpet players, really a shame his life was so hard.

any older people out there that are knowledgeable of 70's jazz music from other countries please read the rest. I was listenting to this saturday morning jazz show and they said the name of the jazz musician that was real popular in his native country (Africa I think but not sure). I did my best to write it down and this is what I got ; MULAHTU AHSTOCKI. Can you tell me what artist I might have heard based on the mispelled clue.

marvelous

@NorthWriter I agree totally, he put more emotion into his playing than any other jazz musician I can think of, maybe Bill Evans or even Toots Thielemans (love him as well)

@EchoCannon89 I love Chet's phrasing. He could play fast if the situation called for it (my intro to Chet was his version of "Milestones," which was played at lightning speed) but in my opinion the "sweet spot" was on pieces like this, where the tempo allowed him room to really get some emotion behind his playing. I suppose one could sum it up by comparing the differences between bebop and cool jazz. :P

chet baker was a better trumpet player than Miles Davis in my opinion. Miles Davis better artist and more important maybe, but Chet Baker is just so fun to listen to
