This stinking, gas-filled carcass was lying along side the trail to Capitol Lake at aboutt 3,300 metres (nearly 11,000 feet). Throughout the area cattle are engaged in public lands welfare grazing - having destroyed much of the plant diversity in the meadows beneath Capitol Peak.
Unfortunately these meadows will be slow to recover since the mountain environment is so harsh and the cattle herd so large. In other videos show a small herd adjacent the hiking trail in addition to a calf running up ahead of us.
What does the term "Public lands welfare grazing" mean? It means that farmers are fattening cattle at taxpayer expense because they pay little or nothing to use our land!
Not only is beef bad for the land but it's really bad for you health - cut out beef and you'll live longer in addition to leaving natural plants for the deer and elk to eat!

Yes, disgusting - especially when you consider there are millions of cows on public lands that continue destroying natural habitat!
