When I played in a band some 30+ years ago, Hideaway was on our repertoire and was always received well. I have always liked that song, which is not that difficult to play.
Since my vinyl LP has long disappeared, I bough the CD and started (re-)learning what Clapton was playing.
As you maybe can hear the background music is the CD. It is actually slightly restricting to have Clapton playing in the background, since improvisation can easily be in disharmony with his playing, so it requires an almost exact copy of his playing or a well planned duet (which I didn't do).
On my Fender Champion 110 amp I just couldn't make my Gibson Les Paul sound identical to Clapton's, but not too bad to my ear.
As usual, I make a number of mistakes, but do play more good notes than bad ones. If you look closely you'll see one segment where I decided to use chicken picking, since it improved the success rate from 70% to 90%, guess where.
For a number of reasons I have decided not to answer questions about my Les Paul, one reason being that it may receive more attention than me, just making me jealous, LOL.

I hope you like it and please comment.

  • right on man, but seeing as how you're clearly clapton's doppelganger you should be delivering this song with plenty of creamy overdrive! and also other than the tone my only other advice is at the 46 second mark you should either slide or hammer on that note from the first fret, other than that it was absolutely fantastic to listen to!

  • @electricflag Thanks for the comment.

You are probably right, there should be a couple of 1-fret slides in that segment starting at 0:46.

I have gotten a couple of boxes since that video (which was directly into the Fender amp), so next time I should be able to get much closer to the original tone and also implement the constructive advices I have gotten.

  • You realize you look like EC right?

  • A number of people have posted that here, but nobody has said it live.

Anyway, he was my guitar hero in his Bluesbreakers and Cream days.

  • WOOOOOOW

I really loved what you did on 2:26/27

you should upload a video explaining how to do it

    (i'm practicing the same song)

  • Thanks,

Ehhh, let me see what I did there.

Oh yeah, something like a quick 5-string up-stroke arpeggio.

It is actually easier to play that to spell :-)

Lets say that the high E-string at 15th fret is E15, then it is:

    E15- pull off to E12 B12 G12 D12 A14 A14

    or a simpler version:

    B12 G12 D12 A14 A14

    I hope that helps.

  • I am moved by your devotion. Impressive job. I'd like to hear you playing without clapton wailing in the background though. I think you wouldn't be as worried to hit all the same notes etc. Of course most of us don't have a band ready to produce a little video. Then there would be take after take lol...

    Again very impressive.

  • Need that Overdrive or you sound like Les Paul doing Freddy King

  • It´s not fair to use the names of Clapton, Mayall & Bluebreakers! That´s another clumsy cover!

  • Great playing, it's helping me learn the song actually!

  • hunter burst

  • Great playing, think you gotta tune up a bit

  • ur not in tune with the recording it sounds bad

  • to really play the blues you got to put the guitar on the other leg=)

    Great cover

  • Is that a Les paul traditional pro?

  • real nice work.......
