Believe in the power of words.

From two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington and an ensemble
cast lead by Washington that includes Academy Award winner Forest
Whitaker, comes "The Great Debaters." Inspired by a true story, "The
Great Debaters" chronicles the journey of Professor Melvin Tolson
(Denzel Washington), a brilliant but volatile debate team coach who uses
the power of words to shape a group of underdog students from a small
African American college in the deep south into a historically elite
debate team. A controversial figure, Professor Tolson challenged the
social mores of the time and was under constant fire for his
unconventional and ferocious teaching methods as well as his radical
political views.

In their pursuit for excellence, Tolson's debate team receives a
groundbreaking invitation to debate Harvard University's championship
team. The film is directed by Denzel Washington and stars Washington,
Forest Whitaker, Jurnee Smollett, Nate Parker, Denzel Whitaker, and
Kimberly Elise. "The Great Debaters" was written by Robert Eisele and
Tom Epperson and produced by Todd Black, Kate Forte, Oprah Winfrey and
Joe Roth. Presented by The Weinstein Company, "The Great Debaters,"
will be released by MGM on December 25th.

  • @icefenixxx If you want to see acting, watch Ben Kingsley in 'Sexy Beast', and remember that psychotic gangster is actually Gandhi.

  • The next (2-Pac) Tupac, check it out at; superdog39

  • MONDOBENO not serious. TRAINNING DAY AND REMEMBER THE Titanics? Are two characters that do not resemble in anything and seems to be interpreted by different people. You can not reason OPINIONS OR ATTEMPTING TO JUSTIFY THE VISCERAL.

  • DENZEL IS A GREAT ACTOR, GREAT DIRECTOR AND ONE OF THE MOST humble, sincere and fun PERSON OF THE SHOWbusiness

  • My Favorite Movie

  • It all boils down to personal preference. To say he performs the same way in a lot of his movies as a reason to explain why you "Normally hate Denzel Washington" is insane. Denzel has some roles that bring past roles to mind, but so does Deniro, that doesn't mean he's a bad actor. Sam Jackson has very diverse roles but he also selects some piss poor movies (The Man, Snakes on a plane, black snake moan) Denzel is far more than a black Cruise. Watch the movie glory, come back & tell me that again.

  • I saw the same thing with his performances in Training Day and Remember the Titans. His delivery of the lines is the same, and it seems as though he says the same thing in both films. In Glory, I don't think he could've played the part of Thomas.

When I watch Samuel L. Jackson, I see more range. He usually plays tough guys, but in Changing Lanes he's perfect as a defeated, beat-down former alcoholic.

I think Jackson is a better actor.

  • I can see exactly how his character was the same in Malcom X as it was in Hurricane, and Remember the Titans, and Fallen, and Mo Better Blues and Antwone Fisher and John Q... lol... that Denzel sure is a one trick pony... If it's you personally don't like him as an actor but there is diversity in the roles that he selects... you just don't pay enough attention to see it. In what way was Alonzo the corrupt street cop, like Coach Herman Boone from remember the titans?
