@12uniflew get something reliable to start out in, save up then and only then after messing about with something worthless ( say less then 1000 quid ) should you consider spending any decent money modding a car, ask anyone who does it and they'll tell ya the same...

Jap htachbacks are a favorite but any sort will do, 3dr are sporty enough by default. corrolla 1.3 EFI e10 model ( 94-98 ) is a good starter but anything will do.
