Interesting history about Ben Smith and this car. He is somewhat of a legend here around the Motor City..... The legend goes here that he secretly hid out the prototype 1955 Continental Mark II Prototype in his garage and even built a wall around the car so nobody would know. The car has never surfaced but i know a couple people who will swear to this story, and one is a neighbor that lived directly across the street for many years on River Oaks Drive in Dearborn. Ben passed away years ago.

Nice color. And with the white interior it makes it more beautiful.

@CineGolem yeah, the majority can be wrong but generally people like practical better than not so practical, simple over complex as long as the outcome is the same. For instance, simplicity is why the 7 piece Victor mousetrap outsells the more complex expensive mouse traps designed with a humane intent for the mouse. People care more about $ than they do about a mouse! Beta was better than VHS, had better picture quality, but VHS was more practical with longer recording times so it won.

@CineGolem Yeah, I hear that about the elected officials. The problem there may not be that the electorate is so stupid, but that our choices are so limited to choosing between the idiots and the morons,...take your pick of which group represents which major political party. Makes no difference, the outcome is the same until the next election when the poor voters choose the other group until they get dissatisfied with them and vote them out.

@DougCameraMan : I hear what your saying but mass consensus is rarely a qualifier for, well, just about anything... after all, look at the track record of elected officials in this country :) --Anyhow,check out the article at mustangsplus about the development of this car. I tried posting a link but my reply gets denied for posting.
@classicCarDoug = very cool car.

not meaning to sound negative but if the hardtop convertible was such a great idea why didn't more people want them when they were made and available in mass production? The bottom line is that the hardtop convertible did not prove to be better than a fabric top convertible which was less complex, less prone to trouble and repair, less expensive, and retained most of the trunk space. That said, this is a pretty cool & rare Mustang

This is one of the finest I have ever seen! Nice Mustang,, I'll send you a video reponse of our soft top it's not a hard top Convertible but it's nice!

I bought a kit to build one of these a few years ago. Still have not built it, have to finish a restoration on my fastback!!

I love how the retractable hardtop does not add any bulk to the rear end. The lines are still sleek and tapered.

I am the one who bought this car. It was a great deal and I don't regret it one bit.
Nice video of your Mustang convertible and does the hard top convertible has parts available for replacement if it got damage.

There is a company that now reproduces a kit like this, so I would think parts shouldn't be hard to come by.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately I ended up selling it shortly after the videos were posted. It really is a unique car, and was a total magnet at car shows.
