Tiger Temple- Illegal Trade, Animal Cruelty & Visitor Safety Risks

Following the worldwide broadcast of the two-part documentaries by Animal Planet, the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, has become a popular tourist destination that attracts hundreds of tourists daily

The Tiger Temple's success is based around claims that its tigers were rescued from poachers, and live and move freely and peacefully amongst the temple's monks, who are actively engaged in conservation and rescue work.

Prompted by concerns raised by tourists and Tiger Temple volunteer workers, Care for the Wild International's (CWI) investigation uncovered disturbing evidence of serious conservation and animal welfare concerns, including
- illegal tiger trafficking
- systematic physical abuse of the tigers held at the temple, and
- high risk interactions between tigers and tourists.

i went t tiger temple with some of your thoughts in the back of mind after working in south africa with great white sharks for 3 months and i met voulenteers working there,everybody i spoke to mainly from the the u.s and uk put my mind to rest,i carnt be arsed explaiin what they told me because i know everything there is to know about bull shitters and conservation and hopefully you will take my word for it, its all good, if you want something to bitch about go look at prostitution in thailand.

These monks are modest people. They began this activity as a way to rescue animals that were injured / left to die without any hope or choice. IN A COUNTRY THAT'S VERY POOR. Where people sell themselves if necessary to have money to eat!

@emmj Monks are very modest people. But Thailand is far from "VERY POOR." It is home to the world's largest airport, luxury hotels, and a very urban city. The problem is the middle-class is still small and the poor (which all countries have) are not satisfied with what they have. The culture pushes modest people to want to be like the wealthy class (as can be seen in Thai movies and soap operas), etc. Life in the countryside is not bad, but everyone wants to be like the urban elite.
