This is one of my most favarite interpretation of this aria.

Leonora is a symbolic character in Trovatore; the soprano taking part in this role should find the best way to portray her in the relatively short period of time on stage. Here, Leonora wanders outside of the prison where Manrico is held a captive. Note that Leonora in disguise to see her love is in truth nothing but a maid.
