The Romans discovered pleasant thermal springs in the county of Wiltshire and built a settlement there, known as "Aquae Sulis", which became present-day Bath on the river Avon. During the 18th century Bath developed into a city with architecture and urban planning unique in England.
Officially designated by UNESCO as "World Heritage Site", this site is to be safeguarded for the future as a testimony to its enduring past.
