Russian News Channel chooses RR Satellite to distribute its global signal
Moscow, Russia, 11 November 2005 : The new 24-hour English-Language news channel, Russia Today TV, is to be distributed globally by Israel's RR Satellite Communications.
RRSAT will distribute the channel to Europe, North America, Asia and Africa via its REEM Teleport. The company already provides distribution services to more than 150 TV channels on 16 digital platforms worldwide.
David Rivel, founder and CEO of RRSAT Global Network, said Russia Today TV had chosen the most popular satellites through which to distribute its signal.
The channel will be available to viewers in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa via the HotBird-6 satellite; in the USA and Canada via Intelsat Americas 5 (Telstar-5); and in Asia and Australia via the Thaicom-3 satellite.
Sergey Frolov, General Director of TV Novosti, the parent company of Russia Today TV, said, "We found in RRSAT the right partner for our satellite distribution."
Russia Today TV is expected to go on air before the end of this year. With a budget of approximately US$30m for 2005, it's hiring about 300 Russian and foreign journalists and opening international bureaux in Paris, London, Washington, Jerusalem and Cairo.
The company states that its mission is "to inform its viewers about Russian and global issues and to provide the audience with a Russian perspective on world and domestic events. Coverage of life in Russia - authoritative and impartial - is a crucial element of the new channel's programming."
