Levittown: Long Island's Foreclosure Hot Spot

The middle-class Levittown neighborhood of Long Island, once the picturesque symbol of starter suburbia, is now a foreclosure hot spot. The community that was constructed to provide affordable housing for GIs and their families, is now pushing families out due to rising costs of living and a downward spiraling economy.

I was born and raised in LEvittown. I still visit once in a while, but every year it changed alot. I see more houses go up for sale, more forclosers, it hjeart renching to me that my hometown is turning to shit

Born and raised on Long Island, mostly the North Shore.

It has never changed. Nassau County are a bunch of crooked F's who squeeze the life out of loyal Long Islanders for any money they can. The property taxes are criminal and aren't justifiable (Unless they tell you the truth which is to keep black and minorities out of some neighborhoods) My parents retire in 4 years, and they aren't staying.....thanks Long Island for fucking the people that paid your salary for decades.

I escaped Levittown 8 years ago when I was 18. Looking back now that can understand it I'm not surprised the joint is F***ed. Rent like $1300 for a studio. Houses selling for $500,000. Min wage was still $5 when I left I heard it went up.

You just can't survive there.
