I find it very risky to purchase Maxtor hard drives. Mine recently catches fire, in fact it was an IC on board that catches fire. Luckily I Fpund it on time, it might have burnt everyhing !!
My advice, never purchase a Maxtor drive. The company has to state the reason for its drives catching fire.

quantum should have left the fireballs without that name and maxtor should have took the name and made a maxtor fireball... there horrible, and the quantums caught fire too. lol

I had a Maxtor Diamondmax 16 160gb HDD, slow from the beginning, never managed to get it to work as slave and 1 year after i bought it (right the day after warranty expired) it just died. I also had 2 40gb ones, they both just died. Maxtor is the worst HDD manufacturer ever!

I have one 3 yr old Maxtor Maxline III in a mini server and 2, 3 yr Maxtor Diamondmax 21's in a RAID 0 configuration. NO problems. I've probably had 5 in total and only one had problems and it wasn't a complete failure. It just had problems with a faulty power connector that would cause it to not turn on with the computer during boot time.
The actual model depends more than the brand. Do some research, check ratings, don't put faith in one brand just because...
