The Magnum is kick ass, your problem there was that you were hitting their armored faces instead of their unprotected body parts. I mostly save the Magnum for Chainsaw guys and an enemy you'll first encounter in chapter 5. (All i can say is I hate them)

That is my favourite and most intense fight on RE5. First time I did it I got my ass kicked but now I can do it on professional difficulty. Even with infinite ammo on it can be a struggle. Also, since I usually play offline, it's a 1 hit kill against me pretty much.
