I just reached 200 subscribers, and I love you all! If you're one of the people who's subscribed to me for my 8-bit stuff, I'm sorry I've been neglecting you! It's been almost 2 months since my last NES remix, don't expect another gap that long anytime soon!

I wanted to try an 8-bit super metroid song, so to try and get the style right I went ahead and copied every instrument (there were only 14!) from the NES metroid's soundtrack into famitracker. Not sure if everything's perfectly accurate (the drum sounds required some guesswork), but nothing sounds off so I'm happy with the result.

That's the link for the .ftm: You can use it to make your own metroid-styled 8-bit songs! If you're trying to stay true to the original style, you shouldn't need to use any vibrato, or ever specify volume (except in the case of the "flat" instrument, which was used in the original at various volumes [specifically 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 or 10]). That said, I broke a couple "rules" myself in this video. The instruments are really just a guideline, don't be afraid to mess around with them!

  • It almost sounds like it should have been in the original Metroid game

  • Pretty much spot on. Excellent execution!

The only thing I noticed is that the (D#4) notes played at both 0:09 and 0:11 are the wrong octave. They should be lower.

  • nvm

  • try to match it with the vid above.

  • you made some flaws. most didn't hear them though.

  • Flawless job!!! If that's possible, I think it sounds even creepier than the original!!

  • only 200 subscribers? your videos are brilliant!

  • This makes me happy. The original is great, and you've done a good job on this remix.

  • Man I absolutely love this, I'm shivering with nostalgia here. Super Metroid is easily one of my favourite games of all time.
