I submitted an article to Backyard Poultry magazine on a tub plucker we made out of a washing mashine. The article, parts break down, and plans should be in a future issue.
The machine works surprisingly well, 25 seconds and all feathers are washed off.

  • I've looked at several of these on youtube and I'm always left with the same question: where do all those feathers go??

  • @rainbowsnbubbles There is a 1/2 inch gap between the spinning plate and the tub. The feathers simply fall under the unit, after about 75 birds I need to move it.

  • seguradojr - The motor spins at 1725 attached to the 2.5 inch drive pulley the belt drives a 10 inch pulley attached thru a front wheel drive car bearing assembly to the plate making the final drive 431 RPMs.

  • >then cut the thighs off after popping the hip joint and finally filet off the breast, making them boneless skinless breast.<

If you're going to produce skinless chicken breasts, why not just skin the chicken in the first place? that's faster than even a chicken plucker. The skin's the best part anyway!

  • @sagehilll The plucker not only removes the feathers but the dirt as well, trying to skin a chicken is hard with all the feathers getting onto the meat. I do agree the skin is needed for the wings legs and thighs.

  • I've ripped off you're idea, and incorporated it into a small dog grooming business..They generally can walk in a straight line after about an hour..If not i blame it on the shampoo.
