Started a 1941 GE ex-US Navy locomotive. It hasn't run for 30yrs on the #2 end due to a bad gear in the gearbox. I am attempting to restore this engine to full operation. It is located at the South Carolina Railroad Museum, in Winnsboro, SC

  • any updates??

  • @goldcoastflyer Updates- I have gotten the #1 engine to run, I have even had the locomotive moving on its own using just the #1 end. I have jacked up the locomotive and removed the #2 gearbox. The heat press on the high speed bull gear has failed. I was in the process of finding a shop that could press the bearings off the shaft and cut keyways into the shaft and gear. The injection pump and injectors have been rebuilt for the #1 engine.

  • @goldcoastflyer I have ceased to work on the engine, as the SCRM has decided it isn't a high enough priority project to fund at this time. I will continue to tinker with it as I have time and money. I will try to take an update video soon of her moving under her own power. Thanks everyone for the support.
