During the Q&A session at the Salesforce/Google event yesterday in San Francisco, Google's vice president of global online sales and operations, Sheryl Sandberg was on the spotlight regarding how Google is tracking users behaviour using AdWords.
So if you are a Google AdWords customer you can track:
- how many times your ad was shown, we call that impressions;
- how many clicks you received on your ad. And that's pretty important because that's how you pay us, so you want to make sure you pay for the clicks you got.
Sandberg also discarded the perception that Google follows the customers through when they come to a website to see if they are purchasing or not a product, or signing up or whatever.
"We are not tracking user behaviour through this.. and no tracking is going on between Doubleclick and Google Ad... but plans are coming months out".
Depending on which side of the fence you are (merchant or consumer), this is either music to your ears or "breach" of privacy.
