If you say you are "American" it means you are from the USA. Everyone knows this, it's not news. Mexicans are "North Americans," as are Canadians and Americans (US citizens.) But to say you are "American" means you are from the US.

Wrong. Kids in American public schools are not given Irish flag on St. Patricks Day. Furthermore, Mexican flag-waving is 365 days a year, and on Cinco de Mayo you expect Americans to put the US flag away, thus leaving us with only 364 days a year in our own country.
