Incredible scene from one of my favorite movies. Woody Allen is a genius.
The acting and direction are flawless.

  • I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that loves this film, this scene in particular. This is basically a drama class! They're all great actors but Sandy Dennis has something that hypnotizes me.

  • @lecopop

Sandy is hypnotic because it always seems as though she's doing an improvisation. You never see her acting. It's all so spontaneous and truthful. I just love her. What a unique lady she was.

  • My favorite Woody film, just beautiful. I love Sandy Dennis, one of my favorite actresses...this was probably her most, well, grounded performance.

  • @achaserofrocks

"Grounded" is a good way to put it. Sandy showed her control as an actress in this role. Wish she was still around.

  • Great scene. I've seen this movie many times. It's so fantastic. Many critics saw the ending as maudlin but I found it uplifting as Gena Rowlands discovers peace with her past and present. Woody Allen has always been a superb writer/director.

  • @mrshiggs1

"Maudlin"?! It's anything but! I imagine that the critics who said that are a lot like Marion, and were uncomfortable with facing the painful truth in this movie.

  • Pretty much the most realistic dream sequence I have seen in any movie. This is a great film about painful self-reflection, the doubts of one's self and the regrets of life. An underrated but excellent film from Allen.

  • @TalkALotMore

I think Mahler is used elsewhere. This piece is by Erik Satie, Gymnopedie # 3.

  • What is the name of the piece in the background that begins at 1:21? Is that Mahler?

  • @DivaBehavior I agree! Allen is an incredible writer that understands the gray area of life. He dips into every facet of failure, regret, and love lost. I also loved Interiors - which MOST critics panned. Those same critics panned Another Woman. They like to pigeon hole Allen. Perhaps you knew this already, but many of Allen's serious movies are a tribute to Ingmar Bergman. More specifically - they challenge everyday perceptions about life, love, and other "big" existential issues.

  • For those that haven't seen Woody Allen's Another Woman, this scene is not the ending. It does, however, provide a good lead into Gena Rowlands' fate. Sorry if I confused those unfamiliar with the film.
