What belongs to Individual style and what does belong to Technique ? Is there ONLY ONE TECHNIQUE FITS ALL for the javelin throw (and for the other throws as well !) ? May be the BEST TECHNIQUE is the technique which is the best adapted to the specificity of a thrower and make the most efficient use of his unique qualities (and not necessarily the current World champion Technique) . This video from 2 great world class throwers shows how much the coach must be open minded and cautious (and have the necessary knowledge and experience) about the technical and biomechanical approaches . Instead of having ONE TECHNICAL MODEL , it may be necessary to have SEVERAL MODELS and be able to deal with different types of athletes and get the best out of them.

  • Good observation. The planting of left foot is more or less open depending the throwers. The Backley open foot position can help him to come over the left leg as he is looking to use it as support for a high delivery .Zelezny has more side rotation and the left leg works more as an axis (with also a supporting role) . The proportion of vertical and rotational components is different in the techniques of these 2 throwers and this explains the different body positions.

  • @DPTHROWSCOACHING In his bad throws Backley is sometimes bending the left leg and somehow "collapsing" down with the trunk left. In his bad throws , Zelezny has a tendency to deviate too much to the right. All this confirms how the role of the left leg is important in the throw and the landing position of the foot is part of the problem.

  • aztaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! dedúúrva:DDDDDD

  • great footage

  • Zelezny is the best

  • @ThomasTrimble Yes, Zelezny has always planted left of his center of mass.

  • at 0:15 their plant foot is slightly open. Backley's is even facing the camera. Is this part of their technique?
