global replace "Islam" or "Southern Baptist" for Scientology in the example; add and WMD and an unwillingness to engage in the kinds of voluntary social contract envisioned by new age wikipedians. what happens when that kind hierarchy meets distributed networks of volunteers with weak social connections?
this makes a case for futurists to think a little more before demanding for every change they can imagine.
