  • FINALLY one of the great parisian titulaires who improvise something with an actual melody.

i'm so tired of those atonal pieces. just not my cup of tea I guess.

this is a really great piece =)) and Mme Choplin is a very fine lady.

  • This is brilliant. I love the organ!

  • I once improvised on the theme "Three Blind Mice" in modal form, just to see if anyone could recognize the tune. Everyone thought it was brilliant. hehehehehe

Next time you hear an improvisation, PAY ATTENTION!

  • @silentbugler AMEN!!! Take the time to develop the skill or leave it alone!

  • I wish i could be there and could hear it live............

  • spacious reveries,

    tapestries of a heavenly forest,

    where voices ascend aloft,

    in wondrous sonorities.

  • I was sitting next to her on the console when she was improvising a lovely melody with amazing skill and technique for an ordinary workday communion. And she had nothing but a tiny sheet of paper with 6 chords written on it!!

I would kill to be half as good a she is xD

  • I agree she is wonderful. I had the great fortune of playing in an improvisation masterclass with her as well as having a lesson a few weeks ago. She's brilliant at repertoire, technique, and all kinds of improvisation - including atonal. But melodic and modal improvisation is definitely where she shines the most I feel (and she stated they are her favorite).

    Thanks for posting this video!

  • @maestroinwest

I suppose you by DZmusique, you mean me? :P

  • @DZmusique Actually, I enjoy both. "Atonal" improvisations can be extremely interesting . . . but, only so if the organist is exceptionally skilled with dissonant progressions.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Mme. Choplin is a fine lady and an prodigious organist.

  • Thank goodness for improvisation that isn't just angry dissonant battering. This is lovely.
