I love how Stephen loves his gadgets:) His enthusiasm makes me want to try this iPad as well.
From my use of netbooks and iPhone, I would say that the iPad probably can serve my needs. No gadgets (at least not in the near future) will replace physical books imo.

Much ado about nothing, I'm afraid.

I love Stephen Fry but I'm going to have to disagree with him on this one.

Stephen is very bright, but he's APPALLINGLY quick to take the word of Steve Jobs as truth.
No one EVER seriously thought there was a gap between the smartphone and the laptop.

i love him! i recently had to decide between purchasing a macbook pro and a ipad (i had to go for the pro for my uni work). I agree about favouring books over gadget books and I am so glad to hear that this seems to be the majoritys view; i mean The Hungry Caterpillar pop-up book; no gadget could top that!

This is pathetic. I can understand retarded celebrities like tom cruise sucking the dick of a company (in his case, scientology) to get in on the money but I can't believe stephen fry has joined in by supporting the latest retarded gadjet from apple that IS infact just a bigger fucking iphone. No, it is not "game-changing" to have apps on phone, and blackberry did it first thank you (please note, I don't even have a black berry, apple just fucking sucks).

As regards reading books, I cannot see how this can compare with the latest ereaders, in particular, the latest Kindle. There is the weight against it, the price, the reflective, backlit screen. I've handled the ipad and the virtual book interface is indeed impressive, but the excitement engendered is purely cosmetic. What matters is the ease with which the device can provide an experience comparable to reading an actual book, and the key word is "Reading".

@theHOLTEender i was scrolling down to make exactly the same point but i saw your comment on the way down and agree wholeheartedly. Who cares how 'stunning' or 'beautiful' a book looks on an ipad- it will never even come close to replicating the versatility, aesthetics or overall greatness of printed literature.
