I often use an open tuning DGDGAD which my friend guitarist taught me.
As I played with the tuning CGDGAD including the same tuning of cello's - CGDA, so I could play this note in G major easily.
The excellent guitarist is Goro Noda in my "Favourites" who is not alive now.
