Paragliding tandem crash 2003

Bohinj 2003, a Thomas Beyhl student called Martin on a tandem with Leslie was hit from above by a Perec student called Peter during a safety training maneuver carried out under unsafe circumstances. All three fell into the lake with only minor injuries thanks to the reserve deployed by Martin. Peter could not deploy due to a ripped finger that was repaired in the nearby hospital right after the accident. Insurance covered the damaged glides. Peter kept on flying but Martin did not fly for a long time...

During training the students are supposed to follow radio control. No spectators and no showing-off at a safety training.

Being all students under direct radio control, I would say fault of the trainer ordering the pilot to start the maneuver over the radio.

WTF was that! You DON'T do maneuvers in crowded air space! . Someone ought to take your green wing and Burn it in front of you ! Then beat the hell out of you with the melted risers. Your Damn lucky the lines didn't decapitate you ! Thats one, if not THE the most stupid things I have ever seen on You yube Paragliding

@aroscav it's not always the fault of the teacher. A pilot normally made a license to be allowed to fly, and is responsible too. The pilot must have seen that there might be a problem of space, which is a lot easier than for the teacher, that is sitting some 100 m away!

Insurance paid all damage. The green glide is still in use.

Lots of equipment now useless. Pretty expensive mistake.

100% the fault of the Green Glider. Very fast depolyment by the Tandem Pilot saved all three of them.
