We did East Buttress in 1973. I recall a visually gorgeous left traverse, but not any kind of crux pitch. We were doing 5.9 and 5.10 routes on Suicide, so Whitney was basically a backpacking trip. Still, it was a day that remains in my memory. Exposure was jaw-dropping. God, I miss the Sierra Nevada.
