This particular model of Opinel, the slimline, has a long thin stainless steel blade and a bubinga wood handle. I find it perfect for filleting fish. A great blade to take on a fishing holiday, but it is an evil looking thing so be sure to pack it in your hold luggage, not your pocket!

In Britain, the state has effectively criminalised the carrying of knives in public places. this is because some people stab each other. Of course, they ignore the law while honest citizens like me who often have a sharp penknife in their pockets now live in fear of both criminals AND police.

  • Hi Steve, again thanks for your knowledge and information. I'm interested in the Opinel Filleting knife you showed us, I have found an on-line supplier but can't locate the exact same knife, they have a fixed bladed version but it doesn't look the same as yours. I was just wondering if you might have a model or part number please ?. I'm a keen angler here in the UK and the knife looks perfect for filleting at home.

  • @sandmothtube Thanks fo rthe interest. I bought mine in France, it has no markings apart from Opinel stainless inox (inoxidable) France, not even a number. So sorry I can't help you there.

I use it mainly on holiday as I have a Martiini and also a Gerber filleting knife for use at home, but this probabaly outperforms eityher of them.

can only suggest keep searching, if I come up with anything I'll post it here

  • @sandmothtube found them at outdoor gear (sorry can;t post link, they came up quite soon on a google on opinel knives uk

    They're called 'slimline'

  • it is insane how bad laws in england are, they've got restrictive laws on everything, what's next? your butter knife's too long? oh it is, in jail for a month for possession of a long butter knife :P

  • @x2REPx Are you out of your mind! A priest is much to large to fillet with a knife this size.

  • @Bently100 Use a priest.

  • Holy mackerel!

Nice fish, I'll pass on the toy knife.

  • cool video!!!

  • what size is that knife? thanks!

  • I would like to catch fish and clean them as you do, but the thought of cutting them while they are alive and feeling pain is intolerable. Can you please tell me the best way to painlessly kill them first. Thanks.
