In this video, you'll get to see the entire melodeon "in action". It has to be pumped constantly, as the sound is produced by air suction through the reeds. The video got cut short, but I'm playing "Trust and Obey" by ear.

  • Great video, and great instrument, too ! Can you please say me what manufacturer it is, and from what time ? Please post more !

An harmoniuma nd reed-organs lover, Bob (Belgium).

  • Thanks, Bob! The original label on the inside is intact, and it reads, "Carhart's Patent Melodeon. T. & E. Sawyer, Manufacturers, Fisher's Block, Main Street, Nashua, N.H."

I was told that it dates from between 1849-1860.

  • Wow! We have a massive one of these instruments in my familys front room, but since none of us play anything piano- or organ-like, it has languished and is sadly in need of repairs. I think this video of yours is the first time Ive heard more than a few wheezy notes on a melodeon. It was great to hear how lovely it sounded in action. Thanks for sharing!

  • Congratulations, is beautifull reed organ

  • purdy gnarly mate
