The First time I heard this song, the late great Chris LeDoux was singing it, after that nothing comes close, not even Emmylou or Mr. Matthews. Sorry.

@gluckme Fair point about Lefty recording it first. But, it would be a little silly to thank him at a tribute to Johnny Cash, of course he would thank Cash. It obviously was the version that inspired him. Feel free to dive into this comment, lol. Anyway, it is one of my favorite songs!

I know. But he had the first recording on it in 1959. If he had never recorded it, maybe nobody would even know about this great song. I guess we shouldn't thank george strait for Amarillo by Morning (since he didn't write it), nor patsy cline for crazy (since willie nelson wrote it..). It's just a comment. don't look too far into it.
