  • Bruce Lee told people to be well rounded JKD focuses not on one style. Back in the ufc people would use one style, Gracie only showed jui juitsu. Now in todays MMA people are all well rounded, they know bjj, boxing, kick boxing, muay thai, wrestling, etc. They dont use one style anymore which is what Bruce Lee philosiphy was, to not do one style but to be like water. This is why Dana white said bruce lee is the godfather of MMA look at the fighters today they dont focus on one style.

  • jeez...why does everyone think BJJ is MMA?...it's its own style and form which utilizes the ground attack...yea the Gracies were great but come on..

Bruce was the first person to discourage styles..to not only fight with BJJ but also with Muay Thai, Judo, etc...that's what the JKD concept is about..which basically translates to MMA..which is why Dana White called Bruce the father of MMA

  • Those throws are not Aikido or Judo throws. That is pure, Shuai Chiao Kung Fu.

  • sempre..

  • @TheDom12345 UFC started as a tournament that pitted one fighter of each style against each other in a limited rules, no rounds, no weight divisions cage fight, Joyce Gracie had horrible and I mean horrible striking, yet he beat them all. Along came the 2nd tournament, he beat them all yet again!!! At this point strikers are starting to think outside the box and go wait a sec this guy might be on to something, long story short, UFC wasn't MMA in the beginning, it was a free for all of styles.

  • @puto71379 But it was all muscle, and he was stronger than anyone you've ever known.

  • @tjoooda True, but I'm not talking about adding something to it and just calling it JKD. A fighter who fights only using JKD and not willing to expand his knowledge into what other arts may offer is stagnent. Even at the highest level of taught JKD, you have to be willing to improve. By adding, I mean improve. Bruce Lee never taught the highest level of JKD. It is custom especially in Japanese schools not to teach a student everything you know, because the student may use it against you.

  • @TheBaltimoreKnight ... and some words about "believe what is useful": If the JKD practicioner feel that JKD is not effective enough, and he feel he has to add something to it, like a ju-jitsu-throw.... He should rather make a own art, and stop to name what he is doing for JKD. Or else he is disrespectful to both Bruce Lee, and to the ju jitsu-art.

  • @TheBaltimoreKnight Let me put it this way: If you were an soldier in a war, you would only arm yourself with the weapons of highest quality. Everything extra adding would slow both your speed and mind down. Even if a old rifle may be a historical, effective and beautiful weapon, you would easily replaced it with a top modern machine gun. The same goes for JKD, its so well rounded, that only small adjustment may improve it. But the adjustments have to be cutting and not adding (will destroy).

  • @tjoooda Yeah, you can send that to me in a message. I'm just saying and let me know if you agree or not, but a JKD practicioner should be willing add what he believes is useful at leat to his own fighting knowledge if not to the art itself. If that were not the case, Bruce Lee would just be a Wing Chun expert rather than a well rounded and diversed fighter.

  • @TheBaltimoreKnight Who would not? :) No, no video of that so far i know. But if you want to train JKD, there are plenty of schools around the world that promote themselves with the name JKD. Over 90 % off them are not doing JKD. You have to read literature by Bruce Lee and about Bruce Lee, to find out who is doing real JKD. I dont thing I am allowed to give make a advertisement of which book you should read, but I may send you the literature by a message if you want.

  • @TheBaltimoreKnight No, JKD. masters are NOT allowed to add something to JKD. If you are doing that, its JKD consept, and is not the real JKD. However, you might sharpen JKD a little, with simplify the all ready existing techniques. Because thats whats JKD is all about, to simplify. You dont sharpen a sword by adding metal. To add techniques to JKD, like Inosanto is doing is not to simplify. Its making a show and sport of it. And want work in real combat.
