  • Umm, that problem is super easy to fix!!

You can find a youtube tutorial to help you, simply tighten the screws and its fixed!

  • Actually, this isn't the problem with screws themselfs, I tried to tighten them as the first thing after this problem appeared, it's a problem with hinges, they are wore by the time, so only solution is to replace them. I did that and I have no problems now.

  • my dell laptop is like that as well. you just have to live with it sadly :(

  • Yeah...i called Dell tech. support and they said that they cannot do anything about that...i try to replace the hinges, maybe i will have luck with that.

  • Have you found the solution? I still have this problem in my Inspiron 6400

  • Unfortunately no, I made this video for Dell tech. support, but I had no time to write them about this problem.

  • I have da same problem :(

  • i have the inspiron 1521 (bigger brother) these two laptops have the same hinges, contact dell and they will give you a service call, sending replacement hinges, next day delivery. i am now waiting till 2morrow for the replacement ones to arrive.

PS. no point in tightening up the screws it will damage the pre-drilled holes and the problem is where the two parts of the hinge are stuck together dell used nail guns instead of screws, they now have a different hinge design on the new replacements

  • I've replaced the hinges on my Vostro 1000 twice and tonight they are loose again!! The lid is staying up but when I close it 3/4 way it just falls shut.. I have a lot of work now so can't check what the prob is..

  • Screw Dell. My Dell Inspiron 1545 is exactly like that. Geez, Dell is a crappy brand when it comes to hinges.

  • Mine is like jelly too! :P

  • try to lubricate the hinge and see if it help, i used to have a gateway laptop that has the same issue.

  • My auntie got me that laptop from a pawnshop a few weeks ago. It was terrible. not the computer itself but the wireless didn't work and the audio didn't work and it was runnig xp. Now I fixed the wireless and sound and got vista ultimate on it :] home you find a solution to your problem

  • same here just got the laptop today. Mine was a bit more loose so i popped the bezel off and tightened the screws it helped a little.
