Homeward Bound (lyrics)
by Marta Keen

In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing
And the sky is clear and red,
When the summer's ceased its gleaming,
When the corn is past its prime,
When adventure's lost its meaning,
I'll be homeward bound in time.

Bind me not to the pasture;
Chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow.

If you find it's me you're missing,
If you're hoping I'll return,
To your thoughts I'll soon be list'ning,
In the road I'll stop and turn.
Then the wind will set me racing
As my journey nears its end,
And the path I'll be retracing
When I'm homeward bound again.

Bind me not to pasture;
Chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow.

In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing,
I'll be homeward bound again.

  • my dad is in this video. A little while after he got home, I was watching this video because my choir sang the song when we were in 8th grade, and my dad saw the picture of him and it was one of the few times I have ever seen him cry.

  • there are stupid people just don't see the human side to these men and women. They have families and they have feelings.

So don't forget that they're just as human as everyone else.

In my prayers I ask for the Lord to watch over them as they fufill their duty to their country and people.

  • Thank you Grandpa you will never be forgotten nor will your 35 years of service.

  • Totally sobbing right now. <3

  • I have been sending Troop boxes over with this as an inspiration from Our Country, and GCS Distributing, since 2001. I love all of our Troops, their Families, our loving Countrymen and Patriots.

May God Always Bless all of them. And may God always Bless GCS for their support of my Dad and All of Our Troops ... Always!

That reminds me ... It is time to send a donation to GCS for all of their work! Love you!

  • To all these brave soldiers I say "well done" you've more than earned your corner in Heaven some day...My dad is a WWII Vet and I am as proud of him as I am of my son and daughter who have also became Military soldiers... Bravo!

  • The first time I heard this song, it sounded like it was composed 100 years ago - when we were an agrarian society. I thought of a young person on a farm, perhaps in Kansas, Nebraska or Iowa who wanted to escape the farm and go out to discover himself . Too bad the images related to these words are of Military Occupiers. SAD, SAD, SAD. Just the opposite of what this song is about...

  • Listening to this song, sang this well. Is as touching as anything can get....I sang this back in 8th grade in Fayetteville Arkansas. This song even then grabbed at my heart because I've traveled since the day I was conceived. It also makes me thing of my family in the military and also how I left my real dad for a better life. This song was not wrote for me or people like me...but its my life story in one song.

  • As magical today as 4 years ago when I first watched. Thank you.

  • such a chilling and beautiful song...

  • Today I watched a video on the Revolutionary war, and how the colonists from each colony came together as one, with barely any training, and defeated the world’s most powerful and victorious army.

Today’s small video clip in history class was a wake up call for me.While we here, are arguing about stupid things..there are thousands of men&women fighting to defend our Bill of Rights. Giving their lives for our country, for our freedoms.

” the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

  • I am singing this at a competition for the armed forces, in honor of my uncle and grandfathers. Thank you all for what you have done.
