A follow up to part 1, this clip shows additional scenes of the park with the Aeroplane coaster always lurking in the background. Clip ends with some great off board views of the train in action. The scenes were taken on May 26, 1928, the coasters first operating day to the public. The coaster sadly closed in 1957.

  • Nobody died on it. In 1956 the Park switched insurance companies, and after a full inspection the insurer decided it needed $100,000 worth of structural work done to make the ride safe. Playland didn't have the money and were forced to demolish the coaster.

  • There was a very sharp turn right in front by the entrance. A passenger fell off and was killed. Thus they closed the ride. I used to watch it but was never able to ride. Too young....

  • DAMN THAT LOOKS TWICE AS FUN AS THE DRAGON..... I ANYWAYZ ITS REALLLY CREEPY HOW WERE WATCHING LIKE PEOPLE FROM LIKE THAT KONG AGO THERE PROB ALL DEAD THE MUSIC MAKES IT EVEN MORE CREEPY

  • This is definitely real footage of the Airplane Coaster. There are plans for Westchester County to rebuild it on it's original site at Playland but the legislature has stalled on it for the last few years because it's very expensive. It would cost about $10 million. With Playland losing millions a year there is no appetite to dump more money into the park even thought I really think doing this would help the park immensely.

  • I saw this coaster at Rye Beach in '45. I was too young to go on. IMHO it is one of the best ever. "Rebuild it and they will come!"

  • i live over here in portchester is this real footage?

  • why did it close

  • Woah... look at the banking at 1:38... that looks ridiculous

  • Great Idea, but first they need a sponsor to help pay for it.

I would hope GCII could create the real Airplane.some of the elements on their wonderful coasters resemble some of the elements on the Airplane, they are not the exact formulas of the original. the two coasters with similar first drops to the Airplane(Kentucky Rumbler,Terminator) are different in profile, and have removed most of the banking on the turn off the small drop leading into the big drop.

    Can't wait till it's rebuilt!

  • Have them contract GCII to rebuild it. They're well-noted for making really twisted coasters, and some elements they use are ripped from Airplane.
