Views of the Standard and Metre gauge railways of Switzerland.

Firstly, some frieght trains near Gotthard, famous for its pass, and very, very long tunnel.

Secondly, a look at the lake and the Paddle Steamer 'Lotschberg', as well as some metre gauge traffic, at Brienz. Brienz, as many will know, is the bottom terminus of the Brienz and Rothorn Steam Rack Railway. A possible thing to come?

Thirdly, some more metre gauge traffic at Realp, at the foot of the Furka pass. The station only serves a population of around 160, but is used for car transport trains, to carry travellers along the rail route, rather than negotiating the Furka pass itself, like we did. (In low thick cloud may I add!)

  • OMG the motors sound like a jalopy, the paint schemes look like grafitti. The first train looked like it was pulling rust buckets. And the houses are so close in that village it looks like military base housing. How can you say beautiful? Maybe I missed something. Anyway thanks for sharing. Axle grease might help. The food must be good, the people are looking rather plump.

  • The only country in the world with 100% electric railway.

  • Switzerland is so beautiful, and I hope that I get there this year, may in october. I want to go through Hungary, Austria and Switzerland for a few days. I live in Iasi City, visit my city! It is a historical city, with many churches, gardens, palaces, theatres and great atmosphere

  • @artfantasies Actually you can see them from Bern when you sit in the train from zürich to bern. But as usual Mountains are not in the middle of the city ;-)! You need to go to the Jungfraujoch, the places you list here are for us "flat-land" :-) you can see the mountains if the sky is clear from far..

  • @elvarwinston

I was in Switzerland 1995 but I didn't saw one mountain. We were in Zurich, Lucerne and Berne & at the Rhine Falls. Perhaps they are just an illusion, I don't know ;)
