Here over a period of days throughout the fall season on the Red Clay Valley Line, we follow ex-Everett Railroad SW-900 #915 through the valley on her way back from Hockessin and Ashland. You will see different steam locomotives being pulled at the front of the train since these were video taped over a period of a few weeks.

Engine 915 was built in January 1956 by EMD (builder's #20961) as River Terminal Railway No. 97. It was later acquired by Republic Steel and renumbered 915. The locomotive changed hands again and went to work for Gulf States Steel in Gadsden, Alabama. It was acquired by the Everett Railroad in 2001, and was moved to the Tennessee Valley Railroad in 2004 for repairs, which were later completed by Knoxville Locomotive Works. Locomotive 915 was then leased to the Wilmington & Western in the fall of 2008 for a 3-month trial period to test and evaluate the engine for service in the Red Clay Valley. The decision was made in late 2008 to purchase No. 915 to supplement the aging fleet of SW1 switchers.

  • Sounds like an SP horn??

  • Nathan P3. And a fine sounding one at that.

  • why not a geep 9?

  • It's what the railroad could find. Besides, a GP-9 might be to heavy for the line and it would be a problem with space in the shop.

  • Awesome video 5*****

  • Very nice Nathan P3. Can't get much better than those.

  • GP9's suck, everyone owns a EMD, what happened to alco or a good old steamer like this line?

  • nice vid

  • Awesome horn, nice to see an SW out and about on a tourist line. High-hood or not, I see geeps too often.

  • A geep 9 would be perfect for the road, rebuilt tracks, new bridges, hey, this line isn't that much different than the W&N and they run B30-7's over it! Great vid! 5*
