Didn't really intend to do a proper 'unboxing' type video, but I thought since this thing is pretty new and that I had the camera on me I'd shoot some video of the initial unboxing and setup. This is one of the new wave of 'ultra mobile' notebooks, one step up from a netbook. It features an 11.6" screen, Intel Pentium Dual Core SU4100 processor (1.3GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB), 3GB DDR2 memory, 250GB 5400rpm SATA-II hard disk, and uses the Intel GM4500MHD integrated graphics.

Initial impressions are pretty good. The screen is a bit low contrast, but to be expected on a device of this price. The battery life seems to be pretty epic - 8 hours shouldn't be impossible with average usage. Wireless reception is very good. The device is very quiet, and remains pretty cool to the touch during use. Good keyboard making use of the full width of the device. HDMI port for hooking up to a TV. Only thing I'm really missing is built in bluetooth, but that's easily solved with a tiny USB dongle.

Windows 7 Home Premium runs very quickly on this unit - boot time is good and responsiveness is excellent. Feels a fair bit more responsive than my Dell Latitude XT, a device costing far more!

This was shot indoors hence the nasty 50Hz light flicker - nothing I could do about that unfortunately :-(

  • tried any new games on it? if so, how does it handle them? thinking of getting this comp

  • It's using Intel 4500MHD, it's not going to be fantastic to game on by any means - older titles are going to be usable though. I'd not even try to play anything current on it, it's not designed for that :)

  • how much did it cost?

  • £450 when released, probably less now

  • Calm down, you know you can just get a portable USB CD drive

  • Thanks for doing this, but, seriously, less whining on the next one, please?

  • big man with big nice :L

  • Just get an IDE/SATA-USB adapter to connect an optical drive of your desktop pc to the timeline. Cheaper than buying an external USB-drive.

  • sony vaio e series is so much bettter

  • Masculine red? A red is a red, no need to feel any less of man if you have a red laptop :D

Really tempted to buy this gizmo, my coworker has one.

  • how much did it cost

  • ACER SUCKS!

  • Loved the unboxing and your funny comments.

  • how is watching movies on it? is 11,6" far too small? i'm considering to buy it because of its mobility and other great values but i'm afraid the screen might just be too small to watch movies on it regularly? and what about the noise? are the fans actually annoying? would be nice if i get a quick response :) cheers~
