Did they *realize* what they were singing?! Gail Farrell and Dick Dale sing Brewer and Shipley's song "One Toke Over The Line," on The Lawrence Welk Show. Lawrence describes this song as a "modern spiritual". Ummm, okay, I guess so, "technically"...

Wunnerful, wunnerful. And for Dale and Gale's next number, here's "Don't Bogart That Joint."

My guess is that Welk must have heard this song on the radio, had no clue what "toke" meant, and thought it was a Gospel song. I could just imagine him talking to his staff about "getting that Gospel song" on the show, and them not having the heart (or nerve) to tell the man what it really was about.

I loved how the accordian player who introduces the tune is choking and having trouble keeping the smirk off his face.

OMG WTF - (and all that); hilarious! Look at the smile on Dale's face. Of course, who wouldn't be smiling with that cute little chickadee sitting on their lap. Yes, even back in the 'stone age' dumbasses tried so hard to be 'relevant'. Agnew, on the other hand . . . just an earlier version of Cheney, Bushy Boy II, Rover, et al. Funny.
