Did they *realize* what they were singing?! Gail Farrell and Dick Dale sing Brewer and Shipley's song "One Toke Over The Line," on The Lawrence Welk Show. Lawrence describes this song as a "modern spiritual". Ummm, okay, I guess so, "technically"...

  • Fits perfectly, I mean... the only conceivable explanation for the existence of the Lawrence Welk show would be that the artists, the studio audience, the viewers, the production designers, the network execs and Lawrence himself were all stoned out of their skulls.

  • Apparently Brewer and Shipley laughed their asses off about this, as it happened like a week after Vice President Spiro Agnew blamed them for corrupting the nation's youth.

  • Ah, good old Lawrence Welk. When I was a kid — before the days of cable, when TVs only had 13 channels and half of those were nothing but white noise — The Lawrence Welk Show was the ONLY thing on at 7pm on Saturday evenings in the Los Angeles area, so I watched it. I have no doubt that's why I'm as fucked up as I am today.

  • @buckgiblet I wondered the same thing. Could it be the same guy??

  • Clueless. Like Santorum or Teabagging.

  • I bet someone got fired the next day...

  • I wonder if anyone ever told them what they were singing about? Someone should've suggested that they do "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane.

  • Do these people even know what a "toke" is?

  • Is that "the" Dick Dale....the surf guitar player??? If it is, I am glad he stuck with the guitar. His vocal was totally flat :0)

  • i like thi version better!

  • This was old Larry Welk's pathetic attempt to attract a younger audience. (Most of his fans were octogenarian GERITOL swiggers, with one foot in their grave.) Laughable.

  • The accordian player sounded like he just smoked a bowl!! lol
