Test of the Blackmagic Design HDMI Intensity Pro with the Xbox 360 video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at a resolution of 1920 x 1080i (interlaced).

The Blackmagic HDMI Intensity Pro supports HDMI in (source), HDMI out (for viewing on an external monitor / tv), along with a breakout cable for Analog input/output for Component, S-video, Composite Video, and RCA Left/Right Stereo Audio.

This card requires a spare PCI-e card on your Windows / Mac desktop computer. Can be used as an internal card, or used externally with a multiple drive RAID setup, or External enclosure (expensive).

Please Note: The Xbox 360 ONLY outputs 1080p at 60 FPS and the Intensity Pro does NOT record at 1080p 60FPS.

Thoughts:

1. You really want to have a NEWER / fast desktop computer Windows / Mac with plenty of RAM and harddrive space if you are going to install this card internally in your computer.

2. You can use 3rd party software such as GraphEdit or VirtualDUB to record using different codecs (MPEG II) if you have a lower end computer, but the resolution (picture quality) will NOT be as good.

3. You cannot hear the audio while you are recording, unless you output via HDMI to another monitor or split the incoming; HDMI, Optical TOSlink, RCA Stereo audio prior to it going into the Intensity Pro.

HOW TO HEAR THE XBOX 360 AUDIO WHEN RECORDING with HDMI:

1. You need the Optical / Stereo adapter dongle that plugs into the video out port on the back of the Xbox 360.

2. Using either the Optical or Stereo (red/white) connection(s) you can have those connected to some speakers in order to hear while you are recording. The HDMI audio / video signals will still be recorded.

3. If recording using the Breakout Cable, you can use a splitter/adapter for the RCA Stereo (red/white) audio connections and have those connected to some speakers.

HOW TO SETUP THE DEVICE (WINDOWS PC):

1. Once installed, go to "My Computer" and click on "Blackmagic Control Panel" to adjust to the desired / proper settings.

2. From within the "Media Express v1" recording software go to the "Edit" tab and then choose "Preferences".

3. Now adjust to the proper "Video Format" (resolution), "Compression Type" (choose Motion JPEG), choose your "Capture Location" (Saved Videos and Screenshots), and default "Capture Filename."

TIP FOR ACHIEVING A FASTER RECORDING SPEED WITHOUT A RAID SETUP:

1. If you have a newer Windows computer, you might have a "Recovery Drive" that you can find using "My Computer".

2. If you have a "Recovery Drive", you may find this drive to have a higher record/read rate than your default hard drive.

3. Although this drive will be limited in size, it'll be beneficial for recording video without the risk of "Lost Frames" from a slow read/write rate.

4. Simply cut and paste the recorded video to your main hard drive everytime it gets close to filling up

* You can run a "Disk Speed Test" on your hard drive(s) by downloading the latest Blackmagic Intensity software/drivers.

WHAT IF THE MEDIA EXPRESS CAPTURE SCREEN IS FROZEN:

1. Switch back and forth between "Capture" and "Playback" until the screen unfreezes and you see a live picture from your source device (Xbox 360).

Recorded with the first party Blackmagic Media Express v1 software.

  • When you recorded this video, did it appear as a slow playback when you were done recording it? Did you use the Intensity Pro Media Express studio? I've got this card and a beefy computer to handle it, but when I record in 1080i MJPEG, the FPS isn't as fluid as yours is.

  • @Vevictus

    Deinterlace the footage.

  • @playinghalotoday Ah brilliant, thank you :)

  • ok so what happens when you try to record 1080P 30fps when the xbox is running at 1080P 60fps? Will it still record at 30 fps or will it just crap out and not record at all?

  • Is there a delay at all when using the software to view the game as it's capturing? Or should I buy an HDMI splitter and split the connection so I don't get any delay?

  • lol mods

  • @crakinkorn088 RE U REALLY RETARDED OR ARE U JOKING??
