Smart chinchilla learns tricks! - he can open a jar by himself

My chinchilla, Newie, learned how to unscrew the lid of his treat jar! The jar is almost as big as he is, and he doesn't have any thumbs! He's very smart.

I also trained him to go to a target (an edible chinchilla couch) to receive a treat. I show him the treat, point to the couch and he sits on it, then I give him the treat.

how did you teach it? i can't teach my chinchilla anything.

just go in small steps and reward everything your chinchilla does right with their favorite treat

for example, as a first step you should leave the jar lid very very loose. this way, it is easy for your chin to figure out that the lid must be removed to gain access to the treats.

Hey there, cool video. I used to breed gerbils but have debated with myself to get a rabbit or Chinchilla, the guys at the store say go with the Chinchilla, they seem very curious like gerbils and smart! I used to train my gerbils to jump out of the tank and walk on the edge and onto my hand, so I guess training a Chinchilla is cool too! Do they like to play with humans a lot? They seem friendly, the ones in the stores sometimes seem hyper.
