President Abbas calls for Palestinian reconciliation -5Jun08

Palestinians are welcoming a new proposal to heal their internal wounds.

A year since Hamas gunmen sent Fatah fighters fleeing Gaza in a deadly shooting spree, the Palestinian President wants to end the isolation of Hamas.

Mahmoud Abbas is calling for a national unity government - and Hamas is welcoming his invitation.

Al Jazeera's Nour Odeh reports from Ramallah on the plans for dialogue and Palestinian reconciliation.

The Palestinians should be unified because they can never depend on the U.N. to defend their rights and especially not the Americans who already claim that Israel's capital is an undivided Jerusalem even though it is under negotiation. So much for change on U.S. foreign policy by Obama. They can't also expect any help from their fellow Arabs when their corrupt unelected leaders are friends of the Americans.

Algeria, Guatamala,Congo and Panama also did not exist as states before they came into existence in the 20th century and none had a language or culture much different from their neighbours. Perhaps Zionists could lay a claim to these countries as well as the "Algerians", "Guatamalens","Congolese" and "Panamanians don't "exist" like "Palestinians" don't "exist"!

The word "Palestine" was used by Josephus to refer to the coastal strip and by Philo a Greek Jew to refer to the Holy Land 2000 years ago! The Arabic form is Falestin there's no P in Arabic.

The British took control of the region from 1918-1948, after the Ottoman Empire collepsed (after they had control of it from 1516-1918). They had the region under its ownership with a League of Nations Mandate and named the region 'Palestine'. See? Palestine is not even an Arabic name.

um except that you didnt look up the history books knowing that the Palestinians never owned Palestine. And Palestinians are not a distinct people with a distinct culture or distinct language. And there was never such a REAL and OFFICIAL country named Palestine.

Hamas is a terrorist organization, so if the Palestinian people want peace they should stop Hamas from sending rockets aimed specifically at civilians.
