Screw Religion!

@mortalhellion American politicians wanted the Panama Canal. Thousands upon thousands died, without any religious sidetrack, to construct it. Stalin was a godless man who ordered the deaths of millions BECAUSE of their religion.
Anyone can cherry-pick villains to make a point. And cherry-pick villainy.
I prefer to remain more objective. I'm by no means allied with all things that occurred because of religion, nor am I well-disposed to ignore the GOOD of it.

@OxTheWriter Well, perhaps you'd agree then that mankind is insane.
Any species which cannot turn from its own self-destruction of its own accord CLEARLY needs superior (if not Supreme) guidance. We have plied the best men of all centuries to the issue of 'the human condition', and it pretty much seems to only get worse.
But I'd make the case that those who make it worst know NOTHING of God.

I did not state that our mammalian cousins do not exhibit predatory or self-serving qualities; I stated that this is not ALL, or not JUST, what they exhibit.
I don't think it will ever be possible for humankind to get its shit together, so to speak, in some complete way. Even if it could, I'm not convinced it would need a supernatural being to do so; certainly, having one about the place hasn't exactly decreased human conflict.

@OxTheWriter I'd be interested in which 'close mammalian cousins' you think don't exhibit predatory or self-serving qualities. I can list our ten closest right now, and document savagery, theft, killing, fratricide, patricide, and even in the case of chimpanzees, proto-religious trappings (storm-challenges).
So I'll counter your question with a question. If we don't need God, when exactly do you suppose humankind will get its shit together? And what would that look like?
Is it POSSIBLE?

@OxTheWriter One thing I will not do on YouTube, or anywhere else for that matter, is argue the existence of God. There is no common framework to use. Atheists are certain they have proved a negative. Untenable. Religious people do not generally accept 'proofs' at all. Also untenable, each in its own framework.
These arguments/discussions get off on the wrong foot in their very premises.
So, I can argue small points, like what is and is not human or animal nature. None of it brings closure.

There has been some research into "animal nature" that shows that our nature is not JUST to kill and steal. And this isn't even true of "animal nature," for that matter, if one observes some of our distant and close mammalian cousins.
And why would we need some supernatural being to help us distance ourselves? Try on Sam Harris's book "The Moral Landscape" for some interesting arguments on this point.

Just a point:
"Be a good person" is excellent advice, provided one has a framework for the word 'good'. To presume that everyone knows killing and stealing are wrong is a statement made based on the influence religion and reason have already had upon human nature.
Human nature IS to kill and steal. Religion's attempt to codify the process of distancing ourselves from our animal nature isn't perfect, but it has done some good, even so far as providing a moral base for atheists.
:D
Quite a good job, mortal. There is no God or Allah, or any other imaginary deity.

@amishjesus. My favorite sight gag is still the "throwing the boot" at God. Exactly how I feel about religion.

My favorite mystical creature is the Easter bunny...let me see Jesus or Allah shit a chocolate egg....Furthermore,I don`t see wars waged over the cute little bunny.
This world would be a safer place without religion,FACT.

@TheKillerGanja. Religion is the pollution of the world. People need to be open their minds about it and question the biblical culture more.
