When is a rock climb too hard, the holds too small, the cracks too thin? Black Diamond athletes Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson pushed those physical and mental boundaries to the limit this past fall when they spent nearly two months attempting to free a line on El Capitans southeast face, a 900-meter route (linking up sections of the Dawn Wall and Mescalito) that is likely the hardest big wall free climb in the world, mind-bogglingly stacked with numerous 5.14 pitches.
This is the first of a two-part video series of Tommy and Kevin's attempt, with Tommy providing some unique insights into what it's going to take to free this monster line.

@beepimajeepbeep That's like saying that a phillips head screwdriver is the best kind of screwdriver.... NO it's the best at 1 type of screw....
Saying Dean Potter is the best climber is ridiculous. Sure he's an absolutely amazing climber. Sure he might be at the top of the speed climbing world (for now), but speed climbing is one small (extremely small) aspect of the climbing world. There's bouldering, aid climbing, gym climbing, sport, trad, etc. So to say one climber is the best is absurd.
