a double time shimmy means your are doing 2 shimmy's in 1 count of the beat. Ex: a 4 count beat with a single shimmy you would do 4 shimmy's but a 4 count beat with double shimmy's would have 8 shimmy's. The trick is to stay with the beat of the music. I hope this helps.

Shimmying while moving your knees is actually the beginner's movement. The shimmy where your butt and abs control the shimmy requires a lot more control and talent. Both are valid, one is simply more advanced than the other.
