Lyrics:Under the tree's shade
at the edge of the wood
the shadow of a shape
had me frozen where I stood
The axe is already lying by
the roots of the tree
How many of you know what
I mean when I say, "I'm
not going to be the one
to pick it up and swing"
-
whoa...thought this was Mastadon for a sec...
-
@Hoodyrulez oh and "the axe is already at the roots of the tree" could mean that the needle is at his veins of his arm.
-
@Hoodyrulez damn dude, you dont look deep into things at all. Its called a double meaning, many musicians use it. And since he does say "you know what I mean" that shows that he's saying more than whats heard, its deeper than that.
-
its about the wood getting cut down, "the axe is already at the roots of the trea"

@peaceonearth6060 Google.

My theory about this song is that it's about him giving up on heroin.. Listen to the words, especially when he says "I'm not gonna be the one to pick it up and swing you know what I mean"... But anyways, if you guys like dead meadow you should check out the band merchandise.. They only have one ep and it's some of the best music ever!

@peaceonearth6060 Lol just gotta learn it by ear bro, im trying my best to do so.. such a sick song!
Hell yea! More Dead Meadow! This song is so peaceful. It reminds me of my childhood when I use to run up this big hill overlooking our small town, and on that big hill was a single maple tree. I used to love watching the sunset from there. This song almost made me cry.
