It seems there was once a slide rule for everything. Like you, I vividly recall the huge rule hanging from the top of the blackboard in math class. I never learned how to use one. Why bother? I figured that someday computers would come along and eliminate the need. :-)

Hey John,

You must be Amphibious or something. The best I can remember I think I used a slide rule for a year or two. I do remember get a Texas Instrument Calculator ASAP!

Very nice! My grandmother actually have a similar slide rule, but not the same type as that one. This one is for more normal "everyday" math, and it actually works quite well! Of course, a calculator is quicker and can give more accurate answers, but those rulers still could do some advanced calculations and give decent answers if done correctly.

Yes it is surprising how useful slide rules can still be. I do have a "everyday" slide rule, had it since high school. I remember the class and the teacher Mr Zubzitch. It would neat to have that big class room sild rule, it must have been at least 10 feet long.
